DEEWAR (1975)

Two brothers find themselves on opposite sides of the law as one grows up to become a smuggler and the other a police officer. Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) sacrifices his childhood in the hope of giving his younger brother Ravi (Shashi Kapoor) a good life. This struggle leads him into a life of crime as he moves up from being a dock worker to becoming the boss of an organised crime ring. Ravi becomes a police officer and is given charge of bringing his brother to justice. The only thing that can change Vijay's life around is their mother (Nirupa Roy) who is the acchor in both their lives.

Powerfully scripted and intensely enacted, Deewar was a huge success.

Salim-Javed won the Filmfare awards for best story, screenplay and dialogue.
