Yash Chopra directed this film about an honest journalist (Dilip Kumar) and his wife (Waheeda Rehman) who shift house moving into a rough neighbourhood. The local goons led by Anil Kapoor make their life miserable. Dilip Kumar starts his own printing press with the help of his friend cum landlord Saeed Jaffery and establishes his own newspaper that blatantly speaks out against injustice. His love and patience changes the lives of the goons as they give up their life of crime and set out to earn respectable lives.
Things however take a dramatic twist as Dilip Kumar and his wife have their press burned to the ground and are forced to vacate the house. Waheeda Rehman dies going through the entire ordeal. Dilip Kumar now resorts to the very lifestyle that he had condemned to take revenge on the man responsible for his plight, Amrish Puri. Anil Kapoor returns after becoming a journalist and realises that he must now expose the very man whose love and conviction made him what he is today.
Dilip Kumar delivered an excellent performance especially in the scene when Waheeda Rehman is dying on the road and he calls out to people for help.
