SHAKTI (1981)

A story about a son who has lost faith in his law protecting father (Dilip Kumar) as he believes that his father had left him to die when he was kidnapped by Amrish Puri. Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) grows up resenting his father but would lay down his life for his mother (Rakhee). This resentment leads Vijay into doing things that his father doesn't approve of and he ends up working for a smuggler (Kulbhushan Kharbanda). This also pitches him against rival smuggler Amrish Puri.
Amrish Puri who is suffering losses in his business because of Vijay on one hand and Dilip Kumar on the other attempts to kill Dilip Kumar but accidentally shoots Rakhee in the process. Vijay sets out to avenge her death and the only man who can stop him from committing another crime is his father.

Although wasn't a huge commercial success it is regarded as one of Ramesh Sippy's best films.
Insightful performances by the entire cast and a riveting script, Shakti was and still is a classic.

This film won Salim-Javed the Filmfare award for best Screenplay.
